The fire burning in Pacific Palisades, an affluent Los Angeles neighborhood near Malibu and Santa Monica, has been growing at an alarming rate.
Its trajectory has been driven by a strong wind event: dry winds from the mountains to the north and east and up the coast of Los Angeles, which are called “Santa Ana winds.”
