The original Battlestar Galactica Spinoff must be made now

Now the latest Battlestar Galactica The reboot was thrown out of Hollywood’s airlock, with fans furiously debating how to bring the franchise back. However, as the reboot liked to remind us, everything that has happened before is meant to happen again. With that in mind, I have a simple suggestion: we need a Battlestar Galactica spinoff showing what went on aboard various colony ships during the 2003 reboot, an idea that goes back to the show’s very first season.

The original idea for Battlestar Galactica

We didn’t get too many episodes with civilian ships during the reboot and most of the best ones are in the first season of the show. The reason for this is that Ronald D. Moore originally wanted the show to frequently explore what was going on in the fleet, but SyFy was concerned about the cost of doing so. And after “Bastile Day” (an episode that took place mostly aboard a prison ship) ended up being so expensive to produce, the network and Moore agreed to focus the action mostly aboard the Galactica in future episodes.

In short, this idea would be perfect Battlestar Galactica spinoff show. It could work as a true anthology, with each episode focusing on different ships and crews at different points in the original show’s run. Creatively, it would be a real win/win, as viewers could always fall in love with new characters and the network could potentially hire big names for one-off appearances, which is much easier than locking someone down for multiple seasons. bargain.

Settings a Battlestar Galactica spinoff during the time period of the original show will also give fans more adventures set in the franchise’s most exciting period…namely after the Cylons attacked the colonies. While I was thinking whim was fine, the show’s low ratings and subsequent cancellation are proof that fans don’t necessarily want prequels or other types of spinoffs that stray too far from what they know and love. With this anthology-style spinoff, it can have a familiar setting (Colony ships) and premise (humanity trying to survive a Cylon-induced apocalypse) along with compelling new characters.

Plus with this Battlestar Galactica spinoff, there would be room to reintroduce the reboot using several methods, including simply bringing in the original audio to serve as the transmissions received by the Colony ships. Alternatively, the new spinoff may be able to recruit the cast of the reboot to provide a new voice. Limiting their voices to audio means the producers don’t have to worry about making the actors look younger, and the actors are much more likely to come back if they have to record a few lines and get a damn payday.

At the risk of sounding as egotistical as Gaius Baltar Battlestar Galactica The spinoff idea has something for everyone: new stories, familiar ships, and endless storytelling potential. It could work as a TV show or even a series of movies made for streaming, and it would be relatively cheap to make (especially since there’s no real need for space battles or other action scenes). At the moment though, some overpaid manager is working on a reboot Galactica from scratch and if the producers don’t accept the idea that was there decadethis franchise will never be resurrected in a new body.
