The United Nations aviation agency has confirmed that thousands of records were accessed after a hacker took over its internal recruitment database.
Over the weekend, a person using the nickname “Natohub” claimed to have obtained 42,000 documents from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The agency said Monday that the incident was under investigation and confirmed Natohub’s claims in an updated statement sent to TechCrunch on Tuesday.
“ICAO can confirm that the data security incident involved approximately 42,000 recruitment application data records allegedly released by a threat actor known as Natohub between April 2016 and July 2024.”
ICAO said the data stolen included job applicants’ names, email addresses, dates of birth and employment dates. The agency added that “the affected information does not include financial information, passwords, passport information or any documents uploaded by applicants.”
ICAO said the breach was “limited” to its recruitment database and was working to identify and notify those affected.
