Adrien Brody was visibly emotional while accepting the award for Best Actor on Wednesday, January 8, as Fires continue to decimate Los Angeles.
“It’s been a tough day for me,” Brody, 51, admitted at the Film Critics Awards in New York City, New York, before breaking down in tears. People.
The actor recovered and said, “It’s hard to accept something like this when there is so much suffering in the world. And um, you know, my heart goes out to all the families and animals and our colleagues.”
Brody was accepting the award for best actor for his role Laszlo Toth in Brutalist. However, the tragic events in LA were not far from his mind.
“Most of the houses on the west side, on the beach side of (Pacific Coast Highway) are gone,” he said. Variety. “From the Palisades on, it’s our community.”
Brody went on to thank the “bravery” of first responders battling the fires that broke out in Los Angeles on Tuesday, January 7. Another wildfire broke out in the Hollywood Hills late Wednesday, and more than 100,000 people were ordered to evacuate, according to Associated Press.
“I just want to thank and commend the bravery of the first responders, their sacrifices and the meaningful work that deserves our recognition tonight,” Brody said during his speech Wednesday night.
Stars included Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore and Billy Crystal they lost their home in the fires.
Hilton shared via Instagram on Wednesday that she was “heartbroken beyond words” to lose her home. “Sitting with my family watching the news and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live television is something no one should ever have to experience,” she wrote. “This house was the place where we built so many precious memories. It’s where (her son) Phoenix took his first steps and where we dreamed of building lifelong memories with (daughter) London.”
Crystal and his wife Janice they lost their home for more than four decades. “Words cannot describe the overwhelming devastation we are witnessing and experiencing,” they said in a statement. My Weekly. “We are hurting for our friends and neighbors who also lost their homes and businesses in this tragedy.”
The statement continued: “Janice and I have lived in our home since 1979. We have raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that cannot be taken away. Of course we are heartbroken, but with the love of our children and friends we will get through it. We pray for the safety of firefighters and first responders. Pacific Palisades is a resilient community of wonderful people, and we know it will rise again in time. It’s our home.”
