New York Times Columnist Bret Stephens called out four deceptions and four delusions of President Biden’s tenure in an article published Wednesday that “would not serve his legacy well.”
the illusions Stephen included Biden’s claim that the 2021 migration surge was “seasonal,” his position that the Taliban was “very unlikely” to take control of Afghanistan, his claim that inflation was simply temporary, and lastly, “that “He was the best Democratic candidate to defeat Donald Trump.”
Biden will leave the White House on January 20 when President-elect Donald Trump is officially inaugurated. The president said USA Today’s Susan Page who still believes she could have beaten Trump if she had stayed in the race.
“That last wishful thinking was pure arrogance,” Stephens wrote. “But there was arrogance in the top three, as at every point he was loudly alerted (even by, well, me) that he was making a fundamental mistake.”

“The White House spent months in 2021 refusing to use the term ‘crisis’ for the border; instead, it was a ‘challenge.’ Pentagon leaders warned the president that the Afghan government would soon collapse if the United States withdrew. Larry Summers was frank on the inflation risks of Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package. “Biden ignored that too,” Stephens wrote.
Stephens has historically been conservative, but was staunchly against Trump and supported Biden in 2020. He included in the list of deceptions the president’s claim during the 2020 campaign that he would be a transitional president and his promise to be a “bipartisan, moderate figure in the White House.”
“He, along with his entire administration, insisted that he was mentally and physically fit to serve a second term. And he promised not to forgive his son Hunter if he was convicted of crimes,” the columnist added, pointing out the other two deceptions.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Stephens said Biden did not have a positive approval rating after the withdrawal from Afghanistan and that his early mistakes doomed his presidency to failure.
“His reluctant decision in July not to run came too late to be considered statesmanship,” Stephens wrote.
Members of the media and Democrats. hailed Biden as a hero after dropping out of the race and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris.

“And Hunter? A father’s love is admirable. A president’s lie is not. In one of his last great political acts in office, Joe Biden forgot who he was. But it seems that already happened years ago. The history will not be kind,” Stephens concluded, rejecting his son’s forgiveness.

The columnist also said the cover-up of Biden’s health by those closest to him warranted a congressional investigation.
