Do not fly your drone into an active forest fire. While it’s tempting to take video of a wreck, it can prevent firefighters from doing their jobs. This is exactly what happened when a drone collided with a “Super Scooper” firefighting plane in Los Angeles on January 9. The LA Times reported on this.
It came as LA battled the worst wildfire in history, burning thousands of homes and killing people. at least 10. A drone collision forced the aircraft to abort its mission and land elsewhere for repairs. In the photos of the plane, there is a noticeable hole in one of its wings:
The LA Times reports that police are now trying to find out who was flying the drone and the incident is being investigated by the FAA. The LA Fire Department warned that flying a drone during a firefighting effort is punishable by up to 12 months in jail or a $75,000 fine.
