Apptronik’s Apollo humanoid robot debuts at CES 2025

CES 2025 has been a mixed bag for humanoid robots. The form factor was a turning point as images of the top players were joined by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. during his keynote speech on Monday.

Of these, Agility’s Digit was also on display at the indoor NVIDIA booth along with a miniature conveyor belt. It was a nice twist for the biped robot, whose old form was shown at CES 2020. Ford’s showcase.

Furthermore, humanoid representation is limited to smaller companies, with the exception of Apptronik. The Austin firm’s Apollo robot appeared as part of Texas Instruments’ exhibit. Humanoid uses some of the Dallas-based semiconductor giant’s modules internally.

It was my first time seeing Apollo in person after several near misses. When Apptronik shows TechCrunch first images of the robot I had to double check that this wasn’t an animated render in 2023. There is also something otherworldly about the robot. It’s honestly refreshing, as much of the competition offers similar aesthetic visions for humanoids: bleak, sterile, even apocalyptic.

Apollo is sleek and almost cartoonish, with a pair of large eyes and a head shape that brings back warm memories of early iMacs. Like other first-generation humanoids, Apollo will focus on factory work, but just because he’s designed for an industrial setting doesn’t mean he’s unpleasant and cold.

Apollo’s movements were smooth and the robot even captured him on camera while I snapped some photos. However, it should be noted that this was an extremely limited select and location demo available for demonstration purposes only. It wasn’t an intelligent, autonomous version of a robot suite to be deployed in factories.

It should be noted that Apptronik started factory pilots with Mercedes in MarchFollowing the announcement of similar deals between Figure and BMW and Agility and Amazon.
