Devin Haney will work out today in front of his British fans at an open workout at 2:00 pm in London, England. He doesn’t have a fight scheduled.
Haney in London: Seeking momentum in the UK
It’s a strange move on Dev’s part because he’s not fighting a Brit; He’s coming off an embarrassing loss and his stock is down. He seems desperate to make this move, but it shows where he is in his career.
It will look bad for Haney if few fans and media members show up to watch him train. However, there will probably be a fair amount of British media coming forward in order to get an interview.
Some believe this move is to build Haney’s brand abroad in the hopes of being chosen by Turki Al-Shiekh to fight on one of his Riyadh season cards. By training in London, former two-division world champion Devin will gain visibility among the British press and potentially catch the attention of Turki.
If you want to add Devin to one of your cards, you could pit him against a formidable opponent, such as Richardson Hitchins, Liam Paro or Jaron Ennis. It’s doubtful Haney would agree to fight any of those guys because he wouldn’t want to jeopardize his rematch with Ryan Garcia.
Haney’s A-list status lost
In the United States, Haney’s stock has plummeted due to the combination of his loss to Ryan Garcia and his decision to file a lawsuit and stay out of the ring for a year, without fighting. The way his career looks now, it doesn’t look good for him.
He is no longer one of the A-list fighters due to that loss, and his chances of returning to his former spot of high status are slim. There is no weak champion like the ones Haney beat to capture his two-division world titles.
