Canelo Alvarez met with Turki Al-Shiekh today and said there is “a possibility” that a fight could happen between him and Terence Crawford. He says he’s always looking to make the “best deals.”
Turki hopes to set up a fight between Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and Crawford in 2025 because it is one of the biggest fights that could potentially take place in North America this year. It remains to be seen if he can make that fight.
Canelo looks for “better offers”
Crawford, 37, has yet to say what he will do if he can’t get the fight with Canelo. We know that Terence’s age and fighting at 154 against younger, stronger, bigger fighters will eventually result in him losing. He almost lost his last fight, his debut at 154 against WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov on August 3 of last year.
“There is always an opportunity there. We’ll see, but here there is always the possibility of making the best deals, and there is always the possibility,” Canelo Álvarez told Ring Magazine when asked if an upcoming fight between him and Terence Crawford is possible.
“I think it’s going to be another good fight. Both fighters are good fighters. So, I think they both have a chance to win,” Canelo said in the Feb. 22 rematch between undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in Riyadh.
Former divisional world champion Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) wants to challenge Canelo for their unified super middleweight titles this year. He believes he has the talent to overcome his size disadvantage. Crawford believes he has enough size and skills to defeat Canelo.
The Mexican star is showing signs of slowing down in his last two fights against Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguía. These are fighters that Canelo probably would have knocked out in 2021 and before, but was forced to take a 12-round decision to beat them.
