Unlike William, who was in love with Eliza for years before taking a job in New York at the end of season four, Blake dislikes private detectives. However, this aversion to Eliza’s profession may be short-lived, according to Durant-Pritchard.

“Blake doesn’t want any PIs working with Scotland Yard, but the classic thing about Miss Scarlet is that you can’t deny she’s very good at her job,” he said. Our. “And Blake is a reasonable man and appreciates the fact that while he doesn’t want Ms. Scarlet involved in any of the cases, she’s too good to ignore.
He teased, “So reluctantly they have to allow her to participate.”
While the two hit it off right out of the gate — crossing paths on a tricky stolen goods case during the premiere — Durant-Pritchard explained that they have a few things in common that could bond them.
“He went through his own heart, which is different than Miss Scarlet,” the season five star said. “But they find each other when they are in their company. In a way, they need each other.”
Durant-Pritchard noted that there is a “reluctance” for Blake and Eliza to “step up” when they first come to town, but this changes as the seasons progress.
“You see a kind of friendship building. There’s something between them, just like they both don’t want it to happen,” he teased. “There’s relationship building.”
Durant-Pritchard explained that while Eliza wants to take a clean break from William – fans will see how the two formally break up during the season 5 premiere — healing from a broken heart is “never that simple.”
The English actor revealed that Eliza’s feelings from Season 4 will “feed into what happens in Season 5.” When it comes to connecting with Blake and cracking other cases, Durant-Pritchard said it will be about proving herself on the job.

Sever Zolák; Miss Scarlet Limited and MASTERPIECE“There are some great cases that are quite large and require quite a lot of mental strength,” he said. “And the bond that Blake and Miss Scarlet must form to solve these cases allows the past to stay in the past and they must begin to build their own relationship and future between them.”
Durant-Pritchard has remained somewhat coy about whether Blake and Eliza’s dynamic will become romantic — but he hasn’t completely ruled it out.
“You can expect two, single, heartbroken people to do their job as best they can,” he said. Our. “And as much as they don’t want to spend time together as the season goes on, eventually they’ll have to spend more and more time together and get to know each other better and better as time goes on.”
While Blake and Eliza get off to a rocky start, Durant-Pritchard has easily warmed to the show’s leading lady.
“Kate is a fantastic actress and a great person. It’s very easy to just hang around and have it,” he gushed about Phillips, 35. work from Hugh Grant over the years.”

“I think we talked every day from eight in the morning until seven at night and spent every second together,” he recalled. “We got along so well that filming was very easy.

“I’d like to see his relationship with Ms. Scarlet develop over time,” he said, hinting that he, too, is Team Eliza looking for love. “Seeing if they can maintain some kind of working relationship, and whatever else happens, I think it’s good.”
