Tevin Farmer revealed today that he is in talks for a rematch with undefeated lightweight contender William Zepeda.
Former IBF super bantamweight champion Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) gets a second chance against Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) after losing to him via 10-round split decision on Nov. 16 at the Latin Night. card in Riyadh.
If it’s a 12-round fight, Farmer may end up getting knocked out because he looked worn down from the eighth round from the hard body shots Zepeda dealt him in that fight.
The 34-year-old farmer looked exhausted and ready to be arrested. He stayed on his feet because Zepeda was mainly focused on landing to the body due to the head movement Tevin was using. He was elusive, but he couldn’t make Zepeda miss to the body. That’s where he lost the fight.
Farmer and some fans felt he had done enough to earn the victory in that fight. The judges scored 95-94 for Farmer, 95-94 for Zepeda and 95-94 for Farmer. Boxing News 24 scored it 9-1 for Zepeda. The judges did not appear to take into account Zepeda’s body shots in their score. They focused only on headshots.
Farmer won the fourth with a flash knockdown that scored with a left hand that caught Zepeda advancing. But aside from the fourth, Zepeda dominated every round with his power punches, pressure and body work.
Zepeda-Farmer hitting statistics
The rematch is seen as a fight for Zepeda to stay busy and warm up for a fight against the winner of the February 22 clash between WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield.
Zepeda probably would have been the next fighter against Shakur if he hadn’t suffered a hand injury. That ended his plans to fight for the world title.
We are in talks for the Zepeda Rematch. ZEPEDA, Don’t avoid this smoke😤
