SEOUL, South Korea, January 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — As 2025 begins, the expansion of K-Defense enters Latin America it has entered a new phase.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (KS:) (HD HHI) held a launch party for the Peru’s Civil War Project to January 10th at SIMA, a government-run shipyard Peru.
The ceremony marked the beginning of the construction of four ships: a frigate, a coastal patrol ship, and a submarine, which will serve as important strategic assets for Peruvian Navy. The event included metal-cutting and keel-laying ceremonies, marking the official start of construction.

These ships will be built in the area of SIMA Shipyardwhich leverages HD HHI’s advanced design expertise and shipbuilding expertise. The first delivery is scheduled for 2026, with subsequent ships to follow.
Peru’s Civil War Project comes from an export contract of that value KRW 640.6 trilliongiven HD HHI in April 2024. This project, achieved through cooperation between the Korean government and private enterprises under the project “Team Korea”, is seen as an example of the global expansion of K-Defense.

In order to deepen bilateral security cooperation, HD HHI, in partnership with University of Ulsanwill host 12 Peruvian SIMA naval engineers for the inaugural two-week Naval Architecture Training Program January 13th. The company also plans to improve local shipbuilding capabilities by expanding partnerships with Peruvian equipment suppliers.
Looking ahead, HD HHI aims to create a global network of security zones through the Pan-Pacific Belt Vision. The strategy includes establishing partnerships, building local shipbuilding systems, and securing technology transfer packages around key areas, including. Peru, Philippines, Saudi Arabiaand United States.
