The the ongoing Pacific Palisades fires can be particularly difficult for individuals such as Miley Cyruswho previously lost their property in similar natural disasters.
“This picture hit me hard in the heart today. This is a photo of my front porch in 2018 after we lost our house in the Woolsey fires,” Cyrus, 32, wrote on the social network. message on Saturday, January 11, sharing a picture of the rubble. “It’s a feeling you’ll never forget.” I went to the door you would walk through every day, looking forward to being greeted by those you love like you always do, but instead you are met with a pile of ashes and rubble.”
Cyrus continued: “My soul aches for those experiencing this devastation (sic) firsthand and I weep for my city. It’s beyond heartbreaking. Los Angeles represents ‘living the dream’, but today’s reality is rubble and destruction.”
Also a Grammy winner shared a link to the Malibu Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps wildfire victims recover, and to several other GoFundMe campaigns for specific victims.
“Time, resources, and commitment from within and outside of our community will heal us, but for now, it hurts deeply,” Cyrus concluded in her remarks Saturday.
On Tuesday, January 7, a series of wildfires broke out in Los Angeles, quickly devastating thousands of acres of property in surrounding neighborhoods. Many celebrities and other residents lost their homes to the fire. Others meanwhileleft the city limits based on mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders.
It is not publicly known if Cyrus’ current residence has been affected by the ongoing natural disaster, but one of her previous homes was burned to the ground in 2018. At the time, Cyrus was married to an actor Liam Hemsworth. (Cyrus and Hemsworth, 34, separated in 2019 and will finalize their divorce next year.)
“It’s been a heartbreaking couple of days. This is what’s left of my house. Love,” Hemsworth he wrote via Instagram in November 2018, they shared a picture of their front porch and the words “Love.” “Many people in Malibu and surrounding areas of California have also lost their homes, and my heart goes out to everyone affected by these fires.”
He continued at the time, “Malibu is a strong community and this event will only make it stronger. Thank you for all the great local people (who helped keep the smaller fires around my property). i love you guys I love you, Malibu. Thank you to all the heroic firefighters across California.”
Cyrus and Hemsworth evacuated with their menagerie of pets.
“My brother. Luke he called and said, “Get ready, they’re going to declare an evacuation.” The whole time I was packing these animals, I had moments where I thought, ‘It won’t go this far; it’s a waste of time and my house won’t burn down,” Hemsworth said recalled to Men’s health in profile 2020. “And of course it burned down and it was like – survive.”
While the then-couple and their animals were all safe, he added to the outlet that “pretty much everything” was left. in the house he was “somewhat replaceable”.
Three years later, Cyrus it seemed to refer their relationship and fire in her 2023 Grammy-winning single “Flowers.”
“We were right until we weren’t / Built a house and watched it burn,” he sings in the opening verse. “Mm, I didn’t want to leave you / I didn’t want to lie / I started to cry, but then I remembered / I can buy flowers.”
Cyrus and Hemsworth have since moved on Max Morando and Gabriela Brooksrespectively
