Happy’s Place enjoys keeping it in the TV family with a multi-star cast Reba McEntirepast sitcom Reba.
Rebawhich aired from 2001 to 2007, starred McEntire, Starring: Melissa Peterman, Christopher Rich, JoAnna Garcia Swisher and Steve Howey. Almost two decades later, McEntire and Peterman reunited with ex Reba executive manufacturer Kevin Abbott on Happy’s Place.
“We are new characters. It’s a new time and it’s different. But the core things you loved about it are there. It’s really different (though),” Peterman said exclusively My Weekly in October 2024. “As far as trying to capitalize on things that (Reba fans) love — like the chemistry we have — it doesn’t matter. We are just new characters. And Barbra Jean (from Reba) was forced by Reba because she married her ex-husband. Gabby is there because she is her friend.
Peterman applauded Happy’s Place for finding a way to “keep the magic going” without copying the same sitcom structure.
“Another big difference is the real life of a family and the reality of blended families,” she noted. “Happy’s Place is all about finding a family at work and Belissa (Escobedo’s) the character also finds family she didn’t know existed and figures it out. You will feel the same warm feeling, but it will be new.”
Her representative Howey he felt the same when he joined a potential multi-episode arc. “Kevin had an idea for this character beforehand. And then he thought, ‘What if Howey did that? That would be really cool to have a reunion.’ Our two months later. “The planets just aligned on this one.
He continued, “Now after 20 years, I can bring different experiences to the characters I play. Also the relationships between the characters – because Happy’s Place is a new thing – they are different. Yes, it’s Reba and Melissa, but the characters are different. Bobbie is very different from Reba. Gabby is very different from Barbara Jean and Danny is obviously different.’
