Crawford’s Golden Ticket: free pass to Canelo

Crawford used a King crown emoji along with his image as if he saw him as some sort of monarch after he was given the fight he had been begging for. This fight is payday for Crawford’s golden parachute retirement. Think of it like Canelo vs. Jermell Charlo 2.0.

Is it asking too much for Crawford to first test himself against at least one assassin at 168? Turki should hold Crawford’s feet to the fire, telling him that he must first beat David Benavidez to get that payday against Canelo. Just let Terence fight Benavidez and let him prove that he is worthy of meeting King Canelo.

Mayweather Plan 2.0

It’s that kind of mismatch. I just hope Turki sells it cheap on PPV because it will be a mismatch and probably boring if Crawford follows suit. Mayweather blueprint how he fought against Álvarez in 2013. Crawford’s trainer, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, has already said that they are going to follow Mayweather’s plan of ‘boxing, moving and tying up’ Canelo all night. It’s going to be very, very boring to watch. He said Crawford would follow him to the T, which will be pure poison to the eyes.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Canelo vs. Crawford is free as part of the normal subscription with DAZN because it is a circus-level fight. Crawford just moved up to 154 and looked terrible, and now he’s going up another two divisions with no experience, no testing, no title shot, and fighting Canelo. It’s a joke.

Turki needs to politely tell Crawford that if he wants the money for a fight with Canelo, he will show some common sense by fighting Morrell or Benavidez to prove that he deserves to be in the King’s presence. Let me be the one to tell Crawford. I’ll tell you.

Former four-division world champion Crawford looked like an average fighter last August, moving up from 147 to 154 to challenge WBA champion Israil Madrimov for his title.

Two divisions too far

Crawford was unimpressive and needed to recover late to win a 12-round unanimous decision against Madrimov. He could have easily lost that fight if Madrimov had the common sense to know that he needed to attack instead of keep shooting. The performance of the 40-year-old Crawford showed that he had hit his ceiling in what he is capable of doing.

If he moved up to 160 to face the assassin Janibek Alimkhanuly or 168 to face Benavidez, the roster would be over. Crawford would be slaughtered due to the size, youth and talent of these fighters.

Fans are divided on whether Crawford, 37, having this fight against Canelo is a good thing for the sport and a further demotion, turning boxing into a non-sport. Obviously, in a real sport, Crawford would have to surpass other teams to reach the highest level.

There would be a season, playoffs and then the final. We see Crawford skipping all those jumps over fighters who would probably beat him, like David Benavidez, David Morrell, Diego Pacheco, Christian Mbilli and Osleys Iglesias. If this were an exhibition fight, it would make sense, but it isn’t.

Crawford is moving up two weight classes to earn an undeserved world title shot against WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight champion Canelo in September. How is this allowed to happen?
