Tyson Fury has announced his retirement of boxing… for approximately the 47th time. This time, he walks away after consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk. Yes, the same Fury who once said he would fight anyone, anywhere, anytime, decided to call it quits. Again. Maybe.
The 36-year-old heavyweight was outclassed by Usyk in their December rematch, but no one expected him to throw in the towel on his career just yet. After all, he already retired before. And not retired. Then he retired again. Predicting Fury’s next move is like guessing the weather in Manchester: good luck.
Last week, Anthony Joshua stirred things up by saying that a fight with Fury “had to happen” this year. Saudi boxing bigwig Turki Alalshikh even hinted at making the all-British blockbuster a reality. Wembley Stadium was supposedly booked, fans were excited and boxing Twitter was in full meltdown.
But not. Fury took to social media with one of his signature cryptic messages:
“Hello everyone, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It has been wonderful, I have loved every minute. I’ll end with this: Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless you all, see you on the other side.”
Dick Turpin? A mask? Is this a retirement speech or an audition for a historical drama?

Let’s be honest, Fury’s retirements carry as much weight as those of a featherweight boxer. Do you remember 2022? After beating Dillian Whyte, he declared he was done, only to return later that year to fight Derek Chisora. He even gave a dramatic speech back then:
“Every good dog has his day. As the great Roman leader said, there will always be someone else to fight with. When will it be enough, enough?”
Apparently, “enough” lasts until the next big payday. So is this the end of Tyson Fury’s career? Maybe. But if history teaches us anything, we’ll see him back in the ring, probably with a new set of excuses and another cryptic Instagram post.
