Shakur Stevenson slammed Gervonta Davis in an interview, pointing out that he has used weight stipulations on his opponents and has faced “less talented fighters” to make himself look better than he is.
WBC lightweight champion Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) became angry when told that Gervonta was not impressed with his record and asked him what he had done in his career to want to fight him. Tank ruled out any possibility of fighting Shakur, considering it unworthy to meet the King. That’s true. Shakur is not fit to be in his presence.
It’s Shakur’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, who has been discussing the idea of him fighting Tank Davis in 2025. Hearn has mapped out 2025 for the Newark, New Jersey native, talking about him fighting these three:
- Floyd Schofield
- William Zepeda
- Gervonta Davis
Now, Shakur is even blathering on like a fight with Tank Davis is a foregone conclusion, without him saying anything. Tank says, ‘What is this guy talking about?’ Shakur is like a spoiled child, used to getting what he wants and throwing a fit when someone tells him no.
Stevenson needs to give Edwin De Los Santos a rematch, show that he can fight without running and then face andy cruz. The Cuban talent is a better version of Shakur but with offense, power and willingness to participate. If Cruz were a computer, it would be the next generation above Shakur, a clunky, outdated model from the early 2000s that freezes on the page.
Weight loss accusations
“It just doesn’t seem real. No disrespect, but I’m a real person. “I’m not going to come out and act like Tank isn’t a good fighter,” Shakur Stevenson told boxing newsreacting to being told that Gervonta Davis said he wasn’t impressed with his record, and shut down rumors that the two would meet in the ring because he sees no value in fighting Shakur.
“In the same way that you ask what have I done for the sport of boxing, I think you should look in the mirror and ask the same question because it’s like, what have you done?” Shakur continued about Tank Davis. “Even the guys you knocked out had a weight clause, a weight loss. It looks good to the public and people who don’t know it, but I’m a fighter. I know what’s happening. I know what you’re doing.
“You’re taking the less talented fighters and putting them in the ring with yourself and making them look like they’re on your level, but they’re not. Until I fight an elite fighter, I don’t want anything to do with him,” Shakur said.
What Gervonta says is 100% true. Who has Shakur fought during his career? Nobody good. He beat a couple of washed-up fighters at 130, captured three paper titles against weak opponents, and looked awfully bad since moving up to 135. He was booed and kicked out of the arena in his fight against Edwin De Los Santos, and fans fled. . in his last fight against the weak-punching Artem Harutyunyan last July in his hometown of Newark.
“Fight someone I fought!”
“He (Tank) acted like he couldn’t get many people in the ring. Why didn’t you try to get Edwin De Los Santos? Why wouldn’t that be a fight you wanted? Since you want to talk bad about me, fight with someone I fought with. And you talked about my performance in doing so. So get over me,” Shakur said.
Fighting with tanks against Edwin De Los Santos wouldn’t do anything for him or his career because that guy hasn’t fought in 14 months. He would be coming off a loss to Stevenson, and by the time Gervonta fought him in August or September, he would have been inactive for 21 months.
Shakur’s stock has plummeted since De Los Santos exposed him as a chicken runner on November 16, 2023. He has done nothing to turn things around by fighting a rematch with him or looking brave in his upcoming fight against lightweight Arten Harutyunyan . .
