In the obsessive, relentless pursuit of Squid Game’s police character Wi Ha-jun

In Squid GameIn its first season, the main B-plot followed Hwang Jun-ho, a police detective played by Wi Ha-joon who stepped away from his official duties to sneak into the competition. But he doesn’t have his eye on the billion won prize; he’s intent on finding his long-lost brother, and with some maneuvering, manages to sneak in as one of the game’s pink-clad guards. Of course, what they find in the first season shocks both the character and the audience, paving the way for Jun-ho. a journey that continues throughout the second season.

Jun-ho’s brother is unmasked like the game Front Man in the first season, a guy is so cold that he hits his own sister (and sends her off a cliff) when they meet again after a long separation. That doesn’t stop Jun-ho from trying to find him (again) in season two; if anything, it makes him even more determined. Of course, trying to triangulate which island the games are held on is no small task.

talking to DeadlineWi explained that this is the first time he’s playing a character in the show’s several seasons, and he appreciates that it gives him the opportunity to delve into Jun-ho, flaws and all: “I’m not saying that Jun-ho is perfectly moral, but the pursuit of truth. and seeing how he risked his life to realize justice was something I loved about him as a person. I also thought that he is the person we need today. That’s why I learned a lot from him.”

Jun-ho definitely makes a mistake in season two – not being completely honest with Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) about his brother’s true identity was definitely a mistake because they assumed he and Gi-hun could win with reason. Squid Game Enter a tracking device into the bigwigs and the competition. There’s also the small matter of a (turns out not so coincidental) overly trusting boat captain who happily agrees to take him and his well-armed gangster buddies around as they search for that elusive little island.

Suffice it to say, Jun-ho has a lot to fight for Squid Gameis approaching third and final season— though Wi feels confident in his performance, especially given the character notes he received from creator Hwang Dong-hyuk. “Hwang advised me that Jun-ho is very well balanced emotionally,” Wi told the trade. “Even though he personally goes through a lot of emotional turmoil, he still has to relentlessly search and achieve his goals to the end.”

Squid Game seasons one and two are now streaming on Netflix.
