Royal heirlooms stand the test of time and the tradition of passing down precious jewels stretches back through many monarchies, from Queen Elizabeth II on Princess Diana and beyond.
Meghan Markle is the proud owner of several of Diana’s jewels and other royal memorabilia – a dazzling collection she has been building over decades – after the former Princess of Wales left a letter before her death with her additional wishes: “I would like you to allocate all my jewels to a share which to be held by my sons, that their wives may in time have or use them.’
Just like prince harryMom did it for her kids, now Markle, 46, is following in Diana’s footsteps by reserving one extra special piece for her daughter, Lilibet3, who will inherit the luxury piece when she turns 18. This is a two-tone Cartier Tank watch that Markle bought in 2015 when Suits was greenlit for a third season.
“I’ve always wanted a Cartier French Tank watch,” she said Hi! at that time. “When I found out Suits was picked up for our third season… (it) felt like such a milestone – I totally gushed and bought the two-tone version.”
Markle continued: “I had it engraved on the back ‘To MM From MM’ and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes the pieces special, the connection you have to them.”
In fact, at the time, Markle hadn’t even met Prince Harry when she bought the rare watch, which currently retails for just under $9,000. While she was yet to enter the era of motherhood, Markle was already ready to pass on the timeless timepiece to her future daughter.
Seven years later, Harry, 40, gave her a second style: none other than Princess Diana’s Cartier Tank watch, which is among the most owned items in Markle’s coffers. In fact, he rarely takes it off.
The co-founder of the Archwell Foundation was first spotted wearing the iconic wristwatch in 2022 when she and Harry attended the Invictus Games reception.
Cartier Tank Markle and her daughters watch will be a heartwarming link between the late Princess Diana, Duchess of Sussex and Lilibet – the little Queen-in-training of Windsor.
