Golden Boy Promotions boss Oscar De La Hoya says he’d rather Ryan Garcia forget about a rematch with Devin Haney and wants him to fight WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez.
With Ryan’s charisma and a large social media following, a clash between him and Teofimo (21-1, 13 KOs) would generate plenty of PPV buys on DAZN.
It would be a match that would appeal to fans around the world because Teofimo is still seen as an undefeated fighter in the eyes of many people because his loss to George Kambosos Jr. was close and could have gone either way. That was when Teo was sick and injured.
Turki Al Sheikh He is reportedly negotiating a rematch between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney. It still doesn’t sit well with De La Hoya, who sees Devin as having already been conquered by Garcia in his one-sided 12-round beatdown of the Bay Area native.
Haney should get back in line because he has his chance against Kingry, and he completely failed. All this crying Haney has done since then over Ryan’s failed test looks bad, showing that he can’t admit he was defeated. You have to bet that if the rematch happens, Haney will use Ryan’s failed PED test as a marketing strategy throughout the promotion.
Image concerns
It would be very bad for Ryan’s career if Devin and his father, Bill, reminded fans that he tested positive for Ostarine in every interview. Even if Ryan wins again, his image will be forever tarnished by the Haneys’ constant bad language.
There could be trouble if Haney tries to convince Ryan to accept VADA against his wishes. He is suspicious that Devin and his father, Bill Haney, push so hard.
De La Hoya sees no point in Kingry fighting a defeated opponent, Haney, as he soundly defeated him last year on April 20. Running it again for no real reason other than money is not enough. García (24-1, 20 KOs) can do much more.
“I personally don’t see the need. “Ryan destroyed it, and that’s the bottom line,” Oscar De La Hoya told Fight Hub TV that he doesn’t see the need for a rematch between Ryan García and Devin Haney. “We have to make the best fights possible.
“There are fighters that we can match Ryan with anyone and have a fantastic event. If (Kingry and Teófimo) are the best right now, and that’s what people want to see, we have to achieve it,” De La Hoya said.
A fight between Ryan and Teo would sell and generate fan interest. However, Haney is not a PPV attraction, lacking charisma and having little to say in interviews. His father, Bill Haney, keeps fans interested in his fights. Dev already had his chance, so he blew it.
Haney was no match in that fight, and the only reason he saw the final bell was because the referee saved him in the seventh round.
