Rachel Platten has been basking in the positive vibes after her recent performance of the national anthem was met with mixed reviews.
Platten, 43, performed The Star-Spangled Banner NFL Wild Card playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, January 13th.
The moment was undeniably poignant, considering the game was moved to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona due to ongoing wildfires in Southern California. In memory of the tragedy, the stadium was decorated with signs saying “Thank you to the firefighters and rescuers”.
However, Platten’s actual performance proved quite divisive on social media.
“What on earth was that national anthem performance? 🤔🥴,” wrote one of the viewers through X. Other he said“Yeah bro, after all that’s going on in LA, couldn’t you get a better singer for the national anthem?”
Platten also performed her 2015 hit “Fight Song” before the playoff game. While she sang, a 200-meter “LA Together” banner appeared on the sideline as a backdrop before the players were introduced to the teams.
Over her Instagram storyPlatten chose to focus on the positive reviews of her performance and reposted supportive comments from her fans and followers.
One audience member said Platten’s performance was “chilling”.
“Sometimes the hardest things in life can bring people together in beautiful ways,” the post continued. “Go Rams tonight 🤍.”
So the plates reposted the video young boy va Steph Curry jersey intently following Platten’s anthem.
“Our little patriot loves his country so much,” the post read. “Every time he hears the national anthem, he claps with excitement, stands at attention with his hand on his heart and makes sure all of us 🇺🇸 do too.”
Before kickoff, the Prime Video analyst and former Los Angeles Ram Andrew Whitworth he addressed the stadium crowd and the millions watching at home.
“For the past week, our Los Angeles region has been ravaged by catastrophic wildfires,” Whitworth, 43, said. “More than 150,000 people were evacuated. Our friends and our neighbors have lost their homes and entire communities have been devastated, and there is still more work ahead. The courage and bravery of our firefighters and rescuers proves that real-life heroes live among us.”
Whitworth added, “But I believe in the people of Los Angeles.” We are strong! We will not be defined by this devastation. We will rebuild LA — hand in hand, together. As long as it takes and whatever it takes, we’ll build it together.”
The Rams won 27-9 against the Vikings, which earned them a trip to face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL playoff round on Sunday, January 19th.
