Cameron Diaz figured out what she’s been up to during her ten-year hiatus from movies — and parenthood is at the top of the list.
“I haven’t been keeping up with any kind of training,” Diaz, 52, said of her escape from Hollywood in a behind-the-scenes video from Netflix Back in action posted on Wednesday January 15th. “I didn’t do anything publicly. I said no to everything.”
The actress – whose first film in ten years drops on Netflix Friday, January 17th — revealed that she founded her wine company, Avalinduring her acting hiatus.
“That’s what I focused on the most,” Diaz explained. “If I was doing anything other than just being a mom and living my day.”
The mother-of-two admitted: “That was pretty much it. I’m just trying to stay alive like any other mother. I’m just trying to keep it up.”
Diaz had an extremely lucrative career, making 38 films over 20 years before hitting hiatus after 2014. Second woman, Sex Tape and Annie.
The following year, Charlie’s Angel star focused on building her family life. Diaz got married Benji Madden in 2015 and in 2018 she revealed she was “semi-retired” as an actress before clarifying that she is “actually retired”.
In 2019, Diaz and Madden, 45, welcomed their first child, a daughter Raddixthrough a substitute. The couple expanded their family in 2022 when their son Cardinalwas born via surrogate.
That same year, Diaz came out of retirement to start filming Back in action with Jamie Foxxwith whom she worked Annie almost ten years ago.
In their new film, Diaz and Foxx, 57, play former CIA agents and married couple Emily and Matt, who find themselves drawn back into the world of espionage when their secret identities are revealed.
Back in action the kick started Diaz’s return to Hollywood. She has since filmed Apple TV+ Result with Keanu Reeves and Matt Bomer and is ready to reprise her role as Princess Fiona in Shrek 5.
“Cameron feels like she’s settled in now and mentally she’s fine,” resource shared exclusively for My WeeklyCover story earlier this month. “He has a fresh perspective on work and the industry as a whole.”
A second insider noted that Diaz’s “goal” going forward is to “pursue projects — whether acting, business or family life — that feel meaningful and authentic.”
