Tony Bennettthe daughters accused their brother Danny bad management the late singerfinance.
Antonio and Johanna demanded in January court documents obtained from People that they have “serious concerns” about the “mismanagement” of Danny’s role as administrator of Bennett’s estate.
“Danny acted in many conflicting fiduciary capacities for an extended period of time prior to Tony’s death and took (for himself and his children) substantial funds from the Family Trust,” court documents state. “Additionally, as Danny has disclosed in various media, at some point prior to Tony’s death, Tony entered a phase of reduced capacity, meaning that Tony was no longer able to act as a co-trustee, leaving Danny as the sole trustee of the Family Trust without oversight.”
According to Antonio and Johanna, their late father had a “clear intention and direction” that all four of his children would be treated equally. They are looking for Danny’s accounting before and after Bennett’s death in 2023.
Antonia and Johanna named Danny in a June 2024 legal filing, claiming certain assets were unaccounted for after Bennett’s death. Both women, as well as their brother Yes are all beneficiaries of the Tony Bennett 1994 Family Trust, while Danny is the sole trustee.
Danny has not commented publicly on his sisters’ new allegations, but in November 2023, he previously filed a motion to have the court case transferred to a substitute court or dismissed. Antonia and Johanna are now asking the court to reject his proposal.
Bennett he died at the age of 96 in July 2023. He survived wife Susan Benedict and his four children. He shared Danny and Dae with an ex Patricia Bukovaas well as his two daughters with exes Sandra Grant.
A year after Bennett’s death, Antonio and Johanna accused their sibling of inappropriate behavior. According to the submission obtained by Fr People, the pair say Danny would allegedly write checks using trust funds “as he sees fit” and make “several gifts to himself” totaling over $200,700. Antonia and Johanna also alleged that Danny took $50,000 in advances on top of the commissions he earned as Bennett’s business manager.
The legendary jazz singer established the trust in 1994 and named his sons as co-trustees. The fund was modified in 2008 when Dae was replaced as trustee with the singer himself.
Antonia and Johanna also named Dae and Benedetto as respondents in the lawsuit, claiming they avoided “responsibility for Danny’s actions” because they had previously argued the sisters “lacked standing” to demand an accounting for the period before Bennett’s death. Neither Dae nor Benedetto have publicly commented on the claims.
