SEOUL (Reuters) – Investigators have found bird feathers and blood inside two engines of a Boeing (NYSE: ) plane that crashed in South Korea on Dec. 29, a person familiar with the investigation told Reuters on Friday.
Jeju Air 7C2216, which departed from the Thai capital Bangkok to Muan province in southwestern South Korea, landed belly-up and overran the local airport’s runway on December 29. , burst into flames after hitting a rock.
A total of 179 people died in the worst air disaster on South Korean soil.
Investigators earlier this month said feathers were found on one of the engines found at the crash site, and added video footage showing a bird strike on the engine.
South Korea’s transport ministry declined to comment.
