Dear white people‘with DeRon Horton focuses on his recovery after he was recently involved in a shooting.
“First. I want to give credit to God for covering and protecting me to get me out of this situation and countless others,” Horton, 32, wrote. Instagram on Thursday, January 16. “Everyone who checked on me said hi to me especially my family and friends I love thank you.
Horton uploaded several photos of his injury — including x-ray which showed the bullet in his arm.
“Gettin shot a few days before Xmas def wasn’t on my wish list 😂🎅🏽,” he continued. “But what happened was when the car was shooting at me, the bullet broke my arm and shattered it all kind of os-. But I’m blessed I’m not in a coffin or paralyzed.”
Horton commented that he wasn’t focused on the ‘healing’ and added: ‘I have a plate with screws in my mf arm so I can’t exercise for a minute which makes me mad BUT it could have been worse! And I don’t need any pity, I’ll be right back and feel amazing 💯💯.”
He concluded, “Just wanted to remind yall and myself to keep God first! Be alert and grateful for everything. the devil can’t stop the wrath when you walk with God🙏🏽.”
The actor received an outpouring of support in the comments section from his former co-stars, incl Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkinswhich appeared on Dear white people. “Thank God for your life. I’m so happy you’re okay,” she wrote.

Logan Browninganother star of the Netflix series, left an emotional message that read: “Dear God, thank you for protecting my special Deron ❤️🩹.”
Samuel L. Jacksonwho collaborated with Horton on The Last Days of Ptolemy Grayhe reached out to him as well. “Glad you’re still with us Tuff Stuff!!! Good thing you’re covered by the Almighty🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿,” he replied. “I hope you get well soon and painlessly👊🏾👊🏾. Stay blessed🫵🏾 ‼️.”
Before playing Lionel on Dear white peoplewhich aired from 2017 to 2021, Horton booked roles in Roman J. Israel, Esq., American Vandal, American Horror Story, Bad Hair, Endless and Bliss. Horton previously thought about how his career path allowed him to share screen with Denzel Washington in Roman J. Israel, Esq.
“I feel like he kind of changed my life, saved my life,” he said The Hollywood Reporter in 2018. “I will say that he and other people that I look up to a lot, and when I saw this person in the flesh and recognized him in my high school brain, I was like, ‘I just hope that one day I can be like him,'” and I’m sitting here looking at him.”
Horton considered it an honor spending time with Washington on set.
“I want to look at the stars, I want to ask him 2,000 questions, but I also want to be as good as him right now and try to make this scene,” he said. “So it was really hard, but we got to talk about a lot of things. We talked about Shakespeare, we talked about God, we talked about love and making mistakes and stuff, but it was a really, really humbling experience for me.”
