Drew Barrymore has a sense of humor about his past struggles with addiction.
During My WeeklyExclusive preview of the Sunday, January 19th episode Hollywood SquareBarrymore, 49, was asked who Tom Conti played in 2023 Oppenheimer.
“Punk Brewster,” she quipped. “By the way, of course I was on the set of that show. Oh yeah, me and Soleil Moon Frye kicked it!”
Barrymore’s fellow panelist Whitney Cummings then asked if Punky Brewster the scheduled visit was during her “cocaine days”. (The four-season sitcom aired from 1984 to 1988.)
“It was just before that, actually,” Barrymore explained. “I was with Punky and then I was brave.

“I’ve had a ‘bad girl’ story on my back all my life. I thought I deserved bad things. Now I am raising two daughters. I can’t do this for myself anymore,” Barrymore exclusively speaking My Weekly in February 2024. “Kind of like drinking – I’m picking things up one by one and I’m like, ‘I can’t take you anymore. You’re no good for me.”
Barrymore shares daughters Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10, with her ex-husband Will Kopelman and has since been candid about how motherhood changed her overall outlook.
“The personal part for me was the final work in progress. The professional in me feels really brave and never entitled. Always so privileged and grateful,” she revealed Our last year. “I lost everything. I got it back. I lost it again. I got it back. So I don’t expect anything to remain. I know not to take anything for granted. No matter how difficult times I went through professionally, I believed that I could rewrite things. In my personal life, I was an unsuccessful and broken person. I can’t believe I’m ever alive. And it’s the first time in my life, at the age of 49, that (personal and professional) complement each other. Time is the greatest asset we have – it allows things to improve, to move, to allow light to enter a dark space.”
