After almost three months Liam Paynethe death of his friend Roger Nores reportedly named the singer’s father in a defamation lawsuit.
In a court filing obtained TMZ on Thursday, January 16, Nores refuted Geoff PaynePrevious claims Nores had “full responsibility for Liam’s care” before his death. While Nores acknowledged he was Liam’s friend, he said he “never agreed to be and was never Liam’s carer”. Nores is now accusing Geoff of damaging his reputation with his alleged account.
Liam, who was best known for his time in British boy band One Direction, suffered a fatal fall from a third floor balcony in Argentina in October 2024. He was 31 years old. An autopsy later revealed that Liam had multiple drugs in his system and Nores since then he was accused of abandoning Liam before his death. (Nores has previously denied involvement through several public statements.)
In his latest court statement, Nores also claimed that Geoff did not share email correspondence about Liam. He further claimed that he invited Geoff to visit Liam at his home in Florida in September 2024, but Geoff never accepted.
According to Nores, Geoff assigned one of Liam’s bodyguards to serve as caretaker before the singer fired him. Court documents claim that Geoff “proclaimed himself” as Liam’s caretaker because Liam never hired a bodyguard again.
Nores also claimed he would donate any money raised from the lawsuit to Liam’s son, Bear. (Liam shared his 7-year-old child with his ex Cheryl Cole.)
Geoff has not publicly commented on Nores’ allegations. He before traveled from England to Argentina to identify Liam’s body, later accompanying him back to the UK investigation.
Along with Bear, Liam is survived by his parents Geoff and Karen and two older sisters. His relatives joined his One Direction bandmates, girlfriend Kate Cassidy and other friends to mourn his death at an intimate funeral in November 2024.

“We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and will be remembered for his kind, funny and brave soul,” Liam’s family he said in a statement a month ago. “We are supporting each other as best we can as a family and are asking for privacy and space at this terrible time.”
Nores also said he was “heartbroken” by Liam’s death.
“I never left Liam. I went to his hotel three times that day and left 40 minutes before it happened,” Nores he said Daily Mail in November 2024. “When I left, there were over 15 people chatting and joking with him in the hotel lobby. I never imagined something like this would happen.”
He added: “I was not Liam’s manager; he was just a very dear friend of mine… I am truly heartbroken by this tragedy and miss my friend every day.”
