Science fiction as a film genre often feels like it’s from another universe. After all, the movies with the most money behind them often end up disappointing, and movies made on a much slimmer budget often become cinematic classics. That’s why we’re thrilled to see one of the best big-budget sci-fi movies ever made available for streaming. And if you’re ready to experience a sequel that improves upon the first film in every way (or just want to learn how to ride a giant sandworm), then it’s time to stream Dune: Part Two on Netflix.

Courtesy of visionary director Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Part Two is one that Netflix viewers will likely appreciate because, if nothing else, it has more action and less complex world-building than the previous film. This sequel continues the story of Paul Atreid and his mother, who live among the native Fremen after the brutal murder of his family by the Harkonnens. Paul learns to become the prophesied savior as the Fremen see him, but it soon becomes clear that he may end up offering more destruction than salvation to the entire galaxy.
If you are watching Dune: Part Two first time on NetflixYou’ll likely be impressed by the stacked cast, including Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as his Fremen lover. Other returning stars include Rebecca Ferguson (who plays Paul’s Benegesserit mother), Josh Brolin (who plays Paul’s gruff mentor) and Stellan Skarsgård (who plays Baron Vladimir Harkonnen to terrifying perfection). Newcomers to the franchise include popular actors like Austin Butler (who plays the Baron’s cruel nephew), Christopher Walken (who plays the Emperor) and Florence Pugh (the Emperor’s eldest daughter).
People love Dune
Well before that Dune: Part Two landed on Netflix, managed to impress moviegoers with its extraordinary quality. Accordingly, ambitious science fiction the sequel grossed $714.4 million against a $190 million budget, and audiences clamored for more. And it seems Denis Villeneuve is ready to give it to them, reports emerged last year that the director and production company Legendary Pictures had already started working on them Dune’s Messiaha film intended to serve as the end of that film trilogy (though Villeneuve said he’s not “closing the door” on possibly adapting later books in Frank Herbert’s long-running book series).
You may have noticed this Dune: Part Two it’s heavily pushed to Netflix users, and there’s likely a reason for that. Simply put, this film was as much a success with critics as it was with audiences. On Rotten tomatoesthe film has a 92 percent critical rating and even has a 95 percent audience score via Popcornmeter. This makes it the rare sci-fi epic that managed to be both a critical and commercial hit, the success of which led to a good (but not great) HBO TV show. Dune: The Prophecy.
Given its big returns and glowing reviews from critics, I doubt I have to give it to sci-fi lovers that very hard to sell stream Dune: Part Two on Netflix. I will say this, though: I was one of the few geeks in my own circle of literary-minded friends who hadn’t read the original Dune novel before diving into this movie, and I was pleasantly surprised by how accessible the movie was. newcomers. If you’re worried that you won’t be able to keep it up, the film skillfully interweaves world-building with plot and characterization. Basically every scene adds to your knowledge of this universe without ever feeling boring or stupid.
DUNA: PART TWO CHECK THE SCORE
Now, you will find Dune: Part Two as surprisingly epic and riveting as I am, or is this a movie you’d rather feed to a giant worm? You won’t know until you broadcast it yourself. If you see the famous sandworm (he can be a bit shy), tell him that his weirdly erotic popcorn bucket and subsequent memes were probably the highlight of 2024 for silly moviegoers everywhere.
