Ryan Reynolds is expanding his football empire!
The Deadpool and Wolverine star and his Co-owner of Wrexham AFC, Rob McElhenneywere named on Thursday 16 January among a group of investors to take over top-flight Colombian team Club Deportivo La Equidad Seguros.
According to Bloomberg and ESPNthe group of investors is led by a real estate investor Al Tylis and football manager Sam Porterwho both own a stake in the Mexican soccer team Necaxa. Other investors include an actress Eva Longoriasupermodel Kate Upton and Upton’s husband, an MLB pitcher Justin Verlander.
“We welcome Al Tylis and Sam Porter who come with a clear, long-term vision to continue strengthening our club,” La Equidad said in a statement via X on Thursday. “This is the first step towards a future full of opportunities.”
“Al Tylis and Sam Porter not only have a wealth of experience in the sports world, but they also have the support of respected personalities such as Eva Longoria, Rob McElhenney, Ryan Reynolds, Justin Verlander, Kate Upton, Shawn Marion and Scott Gallowy,” the statement continued.
Reynolds, 48, and McElhenney, 47, took ownership of Welsh team Wrexham in 2021 will help the club achieve global visibility thanks in part to their FX docs, Welcome to Wrexham. Tylis bought a small stake in Wrexham in April 2024, while Reynolds and McElhenney invested in NecaxBloomberg reported.
