Stevenson: Schofield will withdraw from fight

Shakur Stevenson is convinced that challenger Floyd Schofield can withdraw from their fight on February 22, using some excuse he has dreamed up to get out of the fight.

WBC lightweight champion Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) says Team Schofield’s accusations that he has a spy in camp to learn secrets, that he cuts tires and that he messes with his passport are signs of that will retire.

Shakur predicts retirement

It’s not a good idea for Stevenson to continue discussing his unproven theory that Kid Austin is pulling out of the fight because he’s disparaging the match, and that will cause fans to lose interest. He needs to talk about the fight and try to get the fans excited.

However, Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) does not seem afraid of Stevenson and seems confident that he can defeat him and give the champion a light beating. We don’t know how well Shakur will hold up in the fight because he is coming off surgery on his right hand and still didn’t use that hand last week in training.

“It just seems to me like they’re trying to get out of the fight. They say, ‘He did all this,’ and then when they don’t show up for the fight, it’ll be an excuse. They will try to blame me and say something I did. Some false things to leave out of the fight,” Shakur Stevenson told Cigar talk about Floyd Schofield and his father.

“I don’t have to do it. We’re dealing with Kid Austin. I already saw him fight. He’s going to throw a big hard left hand,” Shakur said when asked about claims the Schofield team made that they believed Stevenson had spies trying to get information about his training methods.

“He (Schofield) is going to change and then throw his strong left over the top. He’s going to throw a hard left hook. His right hand isn’t really shit. It’s science. Nothing new is going to happen. He’s not going to beat anyone else,” Shakur said.

It would be interesting to know if Shakur actually believes that Schofield is trying to get out of the fight, as that suggests his beliefs are not based in reality. Stevenson is not a good judge of people, as it is obvious that Kid Austin is not backing out of the fight and sees this as his big opportunity. The money is good and it’s Floyd’s chance to become a star by earning.

If Schofield were afraid?

“I don’t need to do any extracurricular shit to take advantage of that. I think he’s scared and I’m starting to get scared that he might pull out of the fight. I’m training hard, I sign and then you guys pull out of the fight. That’s a shitty brother,” Shakur said.

“I didn’t even get to see (Schofield’s) tape. I already saw it. “I know what to expect,” Shakur said.
