I think it goes without saying that the “superhero sex comedy” or as I like to call it, the “action porn” genre has a niche audience, and for good reason. But you have to give it to a young Trey Parker and Matt Stone for trying to make their mark on this oddly specific genre in 1997. Orgasmwhich just before completed its limited theatrical rounds South Park have become the intellectual property for which they are best known. Marking Parker’s second feature directorial effort, Orgasm the production value is leaps and bounds ahead of his first film, Cannibal! musical, but Orgasm was always destined to be a cult classic, difficult to track down via streaming due to its controversial subject matter and execution.
At least in time Orgasm release, I’ve never seen an NC-17 movie that wasn’t hidden behind a beaded curtain in a video store, only to be accessed by the most deviant of moviegoers. Ironically, Parker and Stone were more than clever with their self-censorship, which makes the film pretty tame by today’s standards. However, the rating was justified by the MPAA due to their use of sexually suggestive props despite the fact Orgasm has less nudity than in 2016 Deadpool if my calculations are correct.
Innocent Mormon turned porn star
Orgasm it doesn’t tell a complex story, but its premise is unique enough that there aren’t many movies that start with an innocent missionary with intimidating martial arts skills who gets recruited into a dirty movie. royal pin portray a pornographic superhero that results in kidnapping, gang violence, extortion and a real-life ray gun that subdues its subjects by inciting them to the point of, shall I say…extreme arousal and release.
Trey Parker’s Joe Young is a blissfully naïve young man with his whole life ahead of him and doesn’t want to get into trouble when he agrees to work for Maxxx Orbison (Michael Dean Jacobs), who portrays a fictional crime-fighting gigolo named Orgazmo, but agrees to star in his film because he wants to give his fiance Lisa (Robyn Lynn Raab) the wedding of her dreams. Joe takes the job against his faith and quickly discovers that he is signing a contract, but on the condition that a stuntman will take his place during the raunchy scenes, ethically allowing him to star in a movie that is so, so dirty.
The negative side of success
Thinking that his portrayal of Orgasm will only be a one-off gig that will give him a life-changing amount of money, Joe is locked into a perpetual contract with Maxxx after the film becomes a hit. Unlike his co-star who portrays Orgazm’s sidekick Choda Boy, Ben Chapelski (Dian Bachar of BASEketball and Electric Apricot fame), Joe wants out of the business, but his hand is forced by Maxxx, who views the world through the lens of greed. Fortunately, Ben only works in pornography because he likes the thrill, and reveals to Joe that he’s an MIT graduate who actually created a real-life version of Orgasm’s weapon, the Orgazmorator.
Armed with his new weapon of mass arousal, Joe and Ben learn how deep Maxxx Orbison’s corruption runs when Lisa is kidnapped after Joe refuses to honor his contract. It’s up to Joe and Ben to take out Maxxx and rescue Lisa, while Dave the Photographer (Matt Stone) remains blissfully unaware of his surroundings despite the obvious tension on set. Now running the mean streets of Los Angeles as the real Orgazmo and Choda Boy, they need to take out Maxxx and his evil henchman A-Cup (David Dunn) and save the city from certain doom.

Orgasm‘with The NC-17 rating seems a bit harsh looking back on the film now, but I can understand why the censors wanted to err on the side of caution with this film. Back then, Trey Parker and Matt Stone didn’t have nearly as much traction or resources as they do today, and sometimes you have to take it easy trying to make it in the movie industry.
But I will say this: their self-censorship adds a whole layer of comedy Orgasm this elevates the humor to the point of absurdity. Whenever the mistress lifts her shirt to film a scene on Maxxx’s soundstage, there is never full exposure, but the man’s bare back end takes over the shot, which is still a little risque, but much safer than full frontal nudity. Say what you will about the T-Rex love sequence Orgasmbut still, you mostly see provocative facial expressions more than anything else.
