This weekend, Japanese viewers will be watching hot updates Mobile Suit Gundam series, GQuuuuXin theaters. Fortunately, North American audiences will also get a chance to see the upcoming anime on the big screen – we’ll just have to wait a while.
On Friday, film distributor Gkids announced that it has acquired the theatrical rights for the film Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX -Introduction- movie. It’ll hit theaters here on February 28th, and on and on… it’s not clear yet, nor is it clear if screenings will be Japanese-only (like, if ever). Dan Da Dan released in theaters last year) or include the English dub. While the larger franchise is no stranger to theatrical films and compilations, this is a first Gundam show since Reconquista In G airing its first three episodes in theaters and being the first show to reach North American locations during the franchise.

GQuuuuX there is a lot of creative talent behind it Neon Genesis Evangelion alumni Kazuya Tsurumaki and Yoji Enokido, plus the franchise’s creator Hideaki Anno. In a statement, Gkids president David Jesteadt highlighted the creative pedigree of the mecha series, saying they have “an amazing combination of artistic talent collaborating on such a storied series. Mobile Suit Gundam is a preview of the meeting. We are proud to participate in bringing such an exciting new project to the audience in the cinematic experience that the film truly deserves.”
While we wait Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX’s With a theatrical cut on February 28 (and the actual show coming sometime this year), it wouldn’t hurt to watch shows set in the Universal Century continuity, as it could be important. Alternatively, Mubi recently followed suit Gundam X after the war, and that sounds pretty good in itself.
