The Kansas City Chiefs won’t let up their No. 1 ranked seed 1 in the AFC to get in the head – even with a possible back-to-back-to-back Super Bowl win on the line.
“I haven’t heard anybody talk about ‘three-peat’ (or) anything like that,” tight end Travis Kelceone of the team’s playoff captains, he said in a preview for the upcoming ESPN interview with Chris Berman. “Right now our focus is on the Houston Texans.
The Chiefs, who are ranked No. 1 in the AFC conference, will face the Texans in a divisional playoff game on Saturday. The winner will advance to the conference championship against either the Buffalo Bills or the Baltimore Ravens. The AFC champion will of course secure the spot in the Super Bowl against their own NFC title holder.
“Anybody can get beat in the playoffs if you don’t come in with the right mentality and the right mindset from training camp and throughout the season,” explained Kelce, 35, before Saturday’s football game. “We have such a veteran team. We have so many leaders in so many different ways. The guys are stepping up and the guys just understand the task at hand.”
If the Chiefs win the Super Bowl next month, they will become the first NFL team to win the championship three times in a row. Notably, Kelce was signed to a Missouri team that won the Lombardi Trophy in 2020, 2023 and 2024. (The Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in 2020 and 2023 and the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.)
The big game in 2024 was especially special for the Kelce. In addition to winning trophies, he did celebrate the moment with a kiss from a girlfriend Taylor Swiftwhom he started dating in 2023. The pop star, 35, has since become a regular at his football matches and is expected to turn up on Saturday.
“You know that, baby,” Kelce teased her participation during the performance at The Pat McAfee Show earlier this week. “You know it’s playoff football, man. … I feel fired up. I’m feeling 22 (like Swift’s song) again, baby. Let’s go!’
Days later, Kelce gushed about his “very strong relationship” with Swift and that he had her support on game day. (He often walks into KC’s Arrowhead Stadium decked out in team apparel and colors, in addition to his own jewelry honoring Kelce’s jersey number, 87.)
“Me and Taylor are happy and I couldn’t be happier to have that confidence and comfort off the field and all the support I could ever ask for in the stadium,” Kelce said. episode Wednesday, January 15 from The Stephen A. Smith Show. “He loves going to Arrowhead and going to the games and cheering me on, so I got all the support in the world to continue chasing those dreams.
