Christopher Walken she has fond memories of dancing with both of them Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli.
Walked, 81, appeared on SiriusXM’s “Town hall,” is hosting Andy Cohenon Thursday, Jan. 16, where Cohen, 56, asked, “I read you danced with a young Liza Minnelli. Do you remember that?”
Walken replied, “We did an Off-Broadway musical called Best foot forward. 1962. I remember she was 16.” Walken would have been about 19 at the time. Cohen followed up with a question Dune: Part Two star: “Did you see she had it?”
Walken said, “Oh, absolutely.” He shared that he was even invited to Minnelli’s 16th birthday party, where he shared a special moment with Garland, his co-star’s mother. “Her mom threw her a sweet 16 birthday party,” he added.
“I remember dancing with Judy Garland,” he continued, adding that The Wizard of Oz the actress was not only a good dancer but “very good looking”.
Walken’s acting career is diverse, spanning both stage and screen. He is currently starring in an AppleTV+ series Severance paywhich premiered its second season on Friday, January 17. In a 2014 interview with The Hollywood ReporterMinnelli praised her Best foot forward costar as a real musical actor.
“I see a twinkle in his eye every time he gets a chance to dance on screen,” she said at the time. Walken seemed to agree with Minnelli, telling the paper, “I’m kind of an actor by way of musical comedy. That’s really my education, musicals.’
With a career spanning nearly seven decades, Walken is an old-school type, even when it comes to following his own projects. Currently playing on Severance payWalken said on Thursday’s “Town Hall” that he hasn’t seen every episode because he doesn’t stream the series. Instead, he gets a DVD with each new episode.
“I they don’t have equipment,” he explained. “So they’re good enough to send me a DVD. When Cohen pressed Walken further, asking if the actor had a subscription to the AppleTV+ streaming platform, he said, “I don’t have anything.”
Walken is currently starring in the film season 2 Severance pay next to Adam Scott, Britt Lower and Patricia Arquette. Creator of the series Dan Erickson previously opened up about his plans for a second season of the show when it was renewed in April 2022.
“In Season 2, we’re going to show all these people on the outside,” Erickson said Entertainment Weekly at that time. “Like Mark (Scott), they each had their own reason for the procedure and they’re all at some point in the healing process for one thing or another.”
