With less than two days until President-elect Donald Trump returns to office, incoming “border czar” Tom Homan shared a glimpse of the administration’s deportation plans to address the border crisis and illegal immigration.
the starter trump administration is considering arresting illegal immigrants nationwide as early as day one, as top officials say they are ready to “unhandcuff” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“They will be selective enforcement operations,” Homan said in “Fox News live“on Saturday.
“When ICE comes out, they will know exactly who they are looking for, pretty much where they will find them. It is a well-planned operation. They will possibly know who is in the home, including the children. This is a well-planned law enforcement operation.”
TRUMP DETAILS STRATEGY TO GET THE VOTES NEEDED WITH A SINGLE APPROACH TO THE BORDER AND TAXES
The Wall Street Journal reported that the administration is planning a large-scale raid in Chicago on Tuesday, targeting in particular people with criminal records.
“President Trump has been clear from day one, from the campaign to today, that he is going to secure the border and that he is going to carry out the deportation operation. There have to be consequences for violating our laws,” Homan told host Mike Emanuel .
“President Trump has had enough. He has no patience. We are going to start this operation. We are going to fulfill the mandate that the American people gave him.”
The administration has promised a mass deportation operationas well as greater border security. Officials have said they intend to target those with criminal records and convictions, but have also emphasized that they will potentially arrest anyone found to be in the United States illegally. There are currently more than 7 million people on ICE’s non-detainee file.
“We are going to return to the most secure border ever that President Trump had during his first administration, but this time we are going to finish the job. When you secure the border, lives are saved,” Homan argued.
Homan also addressed the expected rejection by “sanctuary” cities who refuse to allow state and local authorities to honor ICE detainers: request that ICE be notified when illegal immigrants in custody are released.
“How many young women will have to be raped, murdered and burned alive until sanctuary cities understand this? This is about public safety,” Homan said. “Every elected official, whether you’re a mayor, governor or city council member, your number one responsibility is to protect your own community. Help us. Come to the table and help us. We’re not asking you to be immigration officers. We’re asking for help to be their communities safer for those who are here illegally.
