SNL recap: Dave Chappelle jokes he was too ugly for Diddy’s parties

Dave Chappelle returned to the host Saturday Night Live on Saturday, January 18, kicks off the episode with a 17-minute opening monologue.

Chappelle, 51, discussed a whole range of topicswith, including Sean “Diddy” Combs“Ongoing legal battles.

“Being famous isn’t fun anymore.” It’s like, you all made it scary,” the comedian said midway through his opening remarks. “It feels like I’m storming the beaches of Normandy in World War II, but I have to keep a happy look on my face. So imagine all the dangers that attack the beach, but I still (smiles).

He continued: “Bullets whiz by and things explode; I’m just like (happy). Then every once in a while something terrible happens and I’m like, ‘Oh, Puffy got hit.’ And Puffy say, ‘Oh, go playboy. I kicked the bastard in the face and forgot about it.’

Diddy, formerly known as Puff Diddy and later P. Diddy, was indicted by a grand jury in September 2024 shortly before he was arrested on charges of sex trafficking, extortion, conspiracy and transportation for the purpose of prostitution. The 14-page indictment — which cited Diddy’s infamous parties, dubbed “Freak-Offs” — alleged that Diddy “abused, threatened and coerced women and others around him” for decades.

Diddy, 55, has repeatedly denied the allegations and has maintained his innocence.

In his SNL In the monologue, Chappelle went on to say that Diddy “is in huge trouble.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it,” Chappelle said. “They got this guy into Rico (the case) by himself. My friends ask me, ‘Dave, did you know about something? those crazy parties‘ I’d say, ‘No, man. I know nothing of this madness.’

Chappelle then alluded to the possibility that his unnamed acquaintances had previously attended Diddy’s infamous gatherings.

“They’d be like, ‘Well, how are these people who (you) know were in on the madness, but you’re the only one who wasn’t?’ I thought about it for a while and I said, ‘Oh my God, I’m ugly.’ Boy, that’s a hard way to find out. Can you imagine reading the paper on me and finding out that everyone in Hollywood is having orgies behind your back?’

However, Chappelle was ultimately relieved that he was never invited to any of Diddy’s parties due to the ongoing scandal.

“I’m glad they didn’t get back to me because the stories coming out about it are crazy,” he said. “Clearly I have scrap energy.

Diddy is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn pending his trial, which is scheduled start later this year. A judge denied him bail on four separate appeals.

“We are disappointed by the decision to proceed with what we believe to be an unfair prosecution of Mr. Combs by the US Attorney’s Office,” Diddy’s lawyer said Marc Agnifilo he said My Weekly in the statement. “Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, entrepreneur, loving family man and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, doting on his children and working to uplift the black community. He’s an imperfect person, but he’s not a criminal.”

The statement concluded: “To his credit, Mr. Combs has only cooperated with this investigation and voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve judgment until you have all the facts. These are the actions of an innocent man who has nothing to hide and looks forward to clearing his name in court.”
