Like many Americans, Harley Hurosky of Texas decided to participate in the “Dry January” movement and give up alcohol for a month after overindulging on vacation.
“Eating and drinking a lot during the holiday season made me feel less than stellar,” Harley told Fox News Digital. “So I thought starting the year with the goal of feeling better physically would be a smart decision.”
Hurosky, who lives in Houston, hoped to create a circle of followers who would not only cheer her on but join her in her alcohol-free break. That didn’t exactly happen.

“Naturally, I assumed that my friends and family would support me and rally around me to provide moral support,” Hurosky said. “It turns out that the only thing they are committed to is staying comfortably out of it. with cocktails in the hand.”
Hurosky decided to record the reactions of those he asked and post their responses on social media. (Watch the video at the top of this article).
“My parents made the list because, well, they’re reliable when it comes to answering the phone and because I thought their reactions would be entertaining, and they absolutely were,” he said.
“I fully expected most of my loved ones responding with a cheerful ‘no,’ especially since asking them to give up alcohol for an entire month seemed like a bold move,” Hurosky said. “But their reactions, both negative and laughing, were exactly what made the video so attractive. fun.”
He viral video garnered more than 743,000 views on TikTok earlier this weekend.

Hurosky is a marketing manager and said he likes to post on social media.
“Honestly, I love the process. It’s so fun to create and share moments that make people smile or laugh,” she said. “My content usually focuses on funny and relatable situations because that’s how I tend to connect with people.”
Hurosky said most of the people he asked are “pretty sociable and travel frequently,” so he anticipated some funny reactions.
“That’s exactly why I recorded the whole FaceTime,” he continued. “What I didn’t expect was that the most entertaining answers would come from my parents. My dad, who is as dumb as I am, absolutely stole the show. Sorry for doubting you, dad. “You really delivered.”

Hurosky is confident he can get through January without any drink.
“This is not my first time doing Dry January. My boyfriend and I successfully completed it last year,” she told Fox News Digital.
“The goal was to lose a few kilos and start a healthier lifestyle.“
Although they were able to eliminate liquid calories last year, Hurosky said the couple “may have overcompensated with takeout and restaurant meals …Let’s just say the calories we saved by skipping the cocktails probably came back through our delivery orders.”

But he noticed other benefits to avoiding alcohol consumption.
“We definitely feel less groggy and enjoy life without the dreaded hangovers,” Hurosky said.
“Dry January didn’t really fit their vibe.”
“Plus, we proved to ourselves that we could follow through with the challenge and go an entire month without drinking, so I’d call it an overall victory.”

In the end, Hurosky said he wasn’t surprised by this year’s rejections of his friends and family.
