During a video campaign for the proposed UK childcare reforms, including the UK Secretary of State David Lammyposted on Facebook on Friday, January 17, Keoghan, 32, offered rare comments about being a father to son Brando, 2, who he shares with an ex-girlfriend Alyson Sandro.
The Saltburn star told Lammy, 52, that becoming a father made him think deeply about his own parents. “As I got older and had my own son, I realized it was such a hard job for her (Keoghan’s mother) and my father. And luckily there was a good system of care, which is hugely important,” Keoghan said. (Keoghan’s mother died of a heroin overdose when the actor was 12 The Irish Post.)
“You can use your platform and your profile to shine a light on things, and anything to do with children and care, I always want to help and shine a light on it and draw attention to it,” Keoghan added.

Keoghan became a father during the filming of 2023 Saltburnnarration GQ in a January 2024 interview that he was given a “day off” for the birth of the child. “Good for them! A day off and straight into a night shoot and night feeding – boom!” Keoghan told the paper at the time. “You see me tired. Yeah. Brando. Good, Brando.”
Keoghan’s latest comments come after the star defended herself in a face-off online accusations being a “deadbeat dad”. During an interview on “The Louis Theroux Podcast” in September 2024, Keoghan acknowledged insensitive comments recently posted by online trolls.
“There’s a lot on the internet. If I didn’t have the tough skin or the strength, I wouldn’t be sitting here,” Keoghan told the host Louis Theroux. “Obviously, (his childhood) will affect me being a father when I had no plan to marry from. People just read it (as) laziness and say, ‘Oh, that’s no excuse to be an absent father.’ I’m not an absent father.”
He is believed to have raised the charges interview Keoghan gave Entertainment Weekly earlier that month in which he talked about his relationship with Brando. “I’ll just say this – I didn’t have a father figure growing up, so my relationship with my son isn’t quite a normal father-son relationship either, because I don’t have a figure to draw from and build on,” Keoghan said at the International Film Festival in Toronto 2024 September 12.

During Keoghan’s interview with Theroux, 54, he said: “People like to use my son as ammunition or whatever. And it kind of leads me to stop, the more attention (I get) lately and the more public I get, the less I’ve posted about my child because I don’t think it’s fair to put my child online. And because I ruled it, people draw a story and say, ‘Absent father, s—, dead dad’ and other disgusting things that I wouldn’t even repeat. Just the audacity of some people, man. It makes me sick, it makes me angry.”
Keoghan and Sandro, a dental nurse and orthodontic therapist, met in early 2021 before ending their relationship in the summer of 2023.
