A man who killed dozens of people by running his car into people exercising outside a stadium in southern China has been executed, state media reported.
Fan Weiqiu, 62, killed at least 35 people and injured more than dozens on November 11 after crashing his car into an exercise track in Zhuhai, in what is believed to be the deadliest attack on Chinese soil. in a decade.
The uproar was sparked by Fan’s “dissatisfaction” with how his assets had been divided after his divorce, the court heard.
His execution on Monday comes less than a month after a court sentenced him to death.
Fan was found guilty of “endangering public safety”, with the court describing his motive as “extremely vile” and “the methods” used as “particularly cruel”.
The attack was one of 19 targeting strangers that took place in China in 2024, including two within a week of the Zhuhai attack.
