Glenn Close tagged the film she believes made audiences finally realize she could be more than Cruella de Vil – her 1978 film Fatal attraction.
“I think it was the first time people realized I could be sexy,” Close, 77, said during an interview with Today’with Willie Geist on the Sunday, January 19 episode Sunday sitting.
The film stars Close as Alex Forrest, a woman who begins an affair with Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas). She becomes more and more mentally unstable as it becomes clear that she is trying to end the relationship, eventually leading to its demise.
The film started as a short Departure before it was developed into a feature-length production by the writer-director James Dearden. It spent eight weeks at number one at the box office and was the second highest-grossing film of 1987. Three men and a child. Fatal Attraction grossed more than $157 million domestically and earned six Academy Award nominations, including for Close.
In addition to reminiscing about her legendary Hollywood career, Close recently opened up about her personal life. When displaying on The Drew Barrymore Show on Monday, January 13, the actress was asked if they have been dating since their 2015 divorce David Shaw. (The couple had been married for nine years.) Close revealed that not only was she single the entire time, but she’s “very happy right now.”
After the host Drew Barrymore asked if Close had tried any dating apps, she replied: “Are you crazy?” before adding, “No, I’m too shy to do that.”
Close also said that she is not particularly interested in looking for a relationship. “I’m not looking,” she added. “Because I’m actually, I’m not a hugely, comfortably, social person, so I don’t jump at the party.”
Before marrying Shaw, Close was married James Marlas in the years 1984 to 1987 and Cabot Wade from 1969 to 1971. They also have a daughter together, Annie Stark Albumwith an ex-boyfriend John Strong.
The actress went on to play the lead role several critically acclaimed films following Fatal attractionincluding Dangerous connections, Wife, Hillbilly Elegy, Air Force One and 101 Dalmatians. She also won an Emmy for the 1995 TV movie Service in Silence: The Story of Margaretha Cammermeyer.
Close has yet to win an Oscar for acting, though he has nominated eight times throughout his career. In 2021 she said Variety that she’s not too upset that she lost. “That’s beyond me. I don’t know what to say about that,” she explained. I just have to keep doing what is good. Your work fulfills you and that is a process for me. It’s what feeds my soul, but it’s really nice when other people like it. It could be great that you never get one.”
