Guy Pearce he reflects on his relationship with his ex-wife Kate Mestitz.
“My ex-wife Kate was the love of my life but now I’ve moved on from her and the love of my life is my baby Monte,” Pearce, 57, told The Guardian posted on Saturday, January 18, referring to his son, whom he shares with his girlfriend Carice van Houten.
Speaking about his “biggest disappointment”, Pearce said he “felt like I had messed up my marriage”. He added: “I don’t feel that way anymore, but I was devastated at the time.”
Pearce and Mestitz, 58, met in 1980 while attending Geelong College and tied the knot in 1997. In January 2015, the couple shared that broke up.
“The rumors are true I’m afraid – Kate and I broke up in January,” Pearce wrote via X at the time. “I’m sorry we’re boring but we couldn’t be closer. We will love each other 4 ever xx.”
Pearce later released a statement confirming the end of their marriage. “Kate and I will always love and support each other and be best friends,” he said. “No one knows me like Kate does and we will always cherish our mutual respect.” We have both grown immensely through our relationship, but unfortunately the time has come for us to say goodbye.”
Pearce also shared snaps of Mestitz, with one captioned: “Best 20+ years of my life – with this beautiful lady…”
Pearce has since pursued a relationship with van Houten, 48, with whom greeted Monte in 2016. The couple currently resides in the Netherlands.
“A cute little package arrived and told us his name was Monte Pearce. We think we’ll keep him. Placenta smoothie anyone?” Pearce wrote via X in 2016, designation game of thrones actress.
In the years following Monte’s arrival, Pearce became open about fatherhood. “When Monte was born, someone said to me, ‘Do you realize that now you’re living with your heart on the outside?’ And it’s really true, isn’t it?” said Pearce The Independent in an interview in 2021. “When I started acting, I knew that if I had to cry, it could easily come out.” After 15 years of therapy I became a much calmer and more content person, but trying to cry in a scene was impossible. Ever since I had my boy, I’ve been crying at the drop of a hat.”
