Do not quit The second season is finally here and you can’t keep quiet about it. Having over two months of new episodes on the way is undoubtedly one of the best things 2025 has to offer so far, and things kicked off with a bang in the premiere. We got to spend all kinds of time with the innies On the cut floor of Lumo and I saw very fascinating new secrets unfold.
last month, we talked with the showman Dan Erickson as we know about the episode you would wants to know what he means about a few things. Here are the spoilers we cut first our full interview.
Germain Lussier, io9: I was shocked when Helly lied about what she saw as her clothing, and it didn’t matter who this person was, what they wanted, etc. triggered many questions like How big a part of the season is it and where did the idea come from?
Dan Erickson: Yes, it’s a pretty big part. One thing we talk about in that scene is, are each character going to be honest and how honest are they going to be? “Will Hellie tell the truth?” we talked about. or “Will he hide it?” I think, if nothing else, Helly would be kind of embarrassed by what she learned. So every character has an absolute reason for wanting to be dishonest with others. Mark too. I wonder if he wants Hellie to know this thing he’s learned, or if he thinks he should take the time to admit it and present it to her? So we talked to each of the three characters who made it to the top.
io9: Another big surprise is Miss Huang, she’s just the most interesting, quirky character. What can you tell me about him?
Erickson: Well, there was always something interesting about the idea of having a child in this role, and why is there such a big question? Why does Lumon do this? What is this? What are the larger implications of this? But I think his presence really brings out the characters. I mean, they’re all weirded out by his presence because he’s this kid (and) it’s hard to hate him, you know? But at the same time, he fulfills this managerial role and is older than them, at least in terms of experience, because innies only have a life span of two years each, at most, and even that is only eight hours a day. So it was a very weird power dynamic that you could only really have on this show. And we were lucky enough to find an actor who could play this smiling corporate thing, and then all of a sudden it goes away and you see the strange darkness underneath. And thus he is Lumon incarnate. He is both at the same time.
io9: Another interesting twist this season is the “family visit set.” How important is this season, and where did the idea come from, anyway?
Erickson: The thing about Lumon and part of their wicked brilliance is that they will encourage what matters most to you. For Dylan in season one, he was very happy with the artificially created meaning of pencil erasers, finger traps, and these little awards that represent achievement. A finger trap is just a finger trap the moment he knows he has a family. It suddenly completely reshapes its importance in life. So what will Lumon do? They will encourage it. They will tell him that if you finish your work, you can see your wife because that is the most important thing to him. He is even willing to do this at the expense of his work family. And this is the predicament in which he finds himself.
