“I made about $4,000 on TikTok this week, but on TikTok Live where people can give me directly, I think maybe $20,000. That is phenomenal and life changing. That’s the power of individual supporters, people just rooting for you and getting behind you,” Pratt, 41, said. Variety in an interview published on Friday, January 17. “And that’s most effective when you don’t have to rely on ads or AI and algorithms, when only real human beings want to give. It’s incredible and incredible.”
When their home burned down earlier this month after the couple were forced to evacuate, Pratt began encouraging his followers on social media to stream Montag music. Through Jan. 12, the 2010 Montag album Shallow was no. 1 on the US iTunes Albums Chart and the title song topped them Roses and Bruno Mars“APT.” on the US iTunes singles chart.
Despite their success, Pratt said he has “no idea” how much money he and Montag, 38, have made from music.
“I don’t know if it will come in checks or when, but everyone keeps telling me, ‘Don’t expect any money.’ I’m more excited about the energy and opportunities that come from it. I don’t think these streams and all these charts (make money),” Pratt said. “From what people tell me, the music business is about touring, it’s about merchandise, it’s about all the things that go with it; that’s how artists make money unless you’re making billions of streams which I keep vigorously (pushing). It’s not happening yet! I’m optimistic because it’s really the only way to get through all of this.”
After Pratt, Montag and their sons Gunner, 6, and Ryker, 2, left the area, a pair of TikTok followers created a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of the family. Supporters have since turned the campaign over to Pratt and Montag, who have emphasized that they do not want to solicit contributions. So far, the family has raised more than $138,000, according to GoFundMe.
While many fans are supportive, some have criticized the couple for the campaign. However, Pratt and Montag are not worried about the “resistance”.

People can do whatever they want with their own money, and thank God there are people who want to support us and send anything.”
He continued: “No one is obligated to do this and it is not a tax.” People can say what they want and have a right to their opinion. But all the people sending messages, asking to send money, asking to create an Amazon wish list. … That’s their choice.”
