When the new era of oligarchy began, the Big Tech mafia appeared in the church with Trump

US oligarchs such as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Apple CEO Tim Cook were spotted sitting behind Donald Trump’s family at church on Monday morning, hours before the incoming president’s inauguration. And it’s a nice reminder that the U.S. is about to enter a scary new era, beginning with Trump’s inauguration as the 47th president at noon ET.

Trump attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington on Monday, a tradition followed by former presidents such as Barack Obama and George W. Bush. But these presidents did not have business leaders who would benefit from the incoming administration filling the seats.

Photographer Anna Moneymaker captured footage from inside the church that shows a who’s who of the richest, most powerful people in tech, including guys like Zuckerberg, Bezos and Cook, as well as Google CEO Sundar Pichai and podcaster Joe Rogan.

The suggestion, of course, is that CEOs will be better at running the country.

Podcaster Joe Rogan was also in church with the incoming president, giving Trump a rather odd look in the photo. Rupert Murdoch, the 93-year-old media magnate who owns a wide range of conservative media organizations around the world, was also seen. Trump sat next to new Vice President JD Vance and his wife, second lady Usha Vance, in the church. Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner sat in the row behind the president.

Trump has promised a series of executive actions upon taking office, including a pardon for the rebels who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. But there are conflicting reports about whether Trump will pardon the most violent coup plotters.
