Fury’s market value: how high can it go?

Few people believe that Tyson Fury’s retirement is legitimate, and see him as the ‘Gypsy King’ going back to his old tricks, trying to artificially increase his market value. It’s like with a painter. Once they are gone, their artwork becomes priceless.

The king’s greed

Fury becoming scarce, seeking to be lured back with gazillions by Turki Al-Sheikh. For a fighter with Tyson’s limited talent and an 0-2 record in his last two fights, he’s not worth minimum wage as an opponent for the recently knocked out Anthony Joshua.

The 36-year-old Fury’s fights are horrible to watch, and you could pick almost any heavyweight in the division that would be more entertaining. It’s interesting that the British still want to see Fury because American fans see him as unwatchable and pure mediocrity.

If Gypsy King waits too long with his game, he may not get the price he wants from Turki. Fans quickly lose interest, especially when a fighter is old and hasn’t won a high-profile fight in 10 years, as in the case of Fury.

His last victory over a quality fighter was in 2015 when he beat 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko. Even that win was nothing special, but that’s how Fury became a star in the UK. The British made a big deal out of that victory. It shows how easy it is to become a star in different countries.

The rush of fury

“I think he wants us to desperately want him back, saying, ‘No, no, please don’t do it,'” Johnny Nelson told talkSport Boxing about him believing Tyson Fury is faking his retirement, hoping fans will beg him to return.

“They know how to deal with this little kid (Eddie Hearn). He’s not going anywhere because there’s too much money to walk away from the fight with AJ. ‘Today I am retired, I am done. The next day, I want half a billion,’” Johnny said of Fury’s game.

“So he’s not even playing a good game of poker. You know what it’s about. He is trying to raise the price. I think Eddie predicted it a week before. So I don’t think so,’ Nelson said.
