Turki Al-Sheikh just announced that Ryan Garcia will fight former WBA light welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, Devin Haney will face José Ramírez and Martin Bakole will fight Efe Ajagba on the same card in May. This is expected to be shown on PPV from Times Square in New York.
Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) has been given a tough fight, facing former WBA and WBO light welterweight champion José Ramírez (29-2, 18 KOs). I wonder if it was Bill Haney’s brilliant idea to pit Devin against this guy. He might live to regret taking this fight.
Rolly Romero (16-2, 13 KOs) is a surprise opponent for Ryan, as Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz was the name he was rumored to fight. Romero is seen as a one-hit wonder.
Cruz knocked out Rolly in the eighth round last year on March 30 in a title match. Ryan fighting Rolly suggests he doesn’t want to take any risk of losing after his long 13-month layoff.
That was a fight that would have excited fans, but there would have been a lot of risk for Garcia because Cruz could really fight. Rolly has two of his last four fights, and some feel he would have lost a third if not for a strange stoppage in his clash against Ismael Barroso in May 2023.
That’s where the referee stopped the fight out of nowhere after Rolly threw a flurry of punches, all of them in the air. He then raised Rolly’s hand in the air, giving him a knockout victory, while Barroso just stands there and says, “What’s going on here?” Barroso received no rematch, which made things seem even worse for Rolly.
The Ring Magazine is excited to announce its first boxing card in the US this May 2025 in collaboration with the video game Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves (after which the card is named) and SNK Games.
The card includes three fights:
