Kelly Stafford she praises her husband Matthew Staffordafter the Los Angeles Rams were defeated in the divisional round of the playoffs — and contemplated possible retirement.
“There are not enough words to express how proud I am,” Kelly, 35, wrote. Instagram on Monday, January 20. “I joke about us being old and tired, but honestly, I never get tired of watching you out there or watching our girls cheer for their dad.
Kelly also shared a carousel of photos from Sunday’s Jan. 19 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. In one picture, daughters Kelly and Matthew surrounded the Rams quarterback, 36, as he leaned in to talk to them. (Kelly and Matthew, who married in 2015, have four daughters: twins Chandler and Sawyer, born in March 2017, Hunter, born in August 2018, and Tyler, born in June 2020.)
“I wonder if it’s over or not… I guess we’ll find out,” Kelly concluded.
After the loss, Matthew said he would “take some time to think” about his NFL future. “But I feel like I played pretty good ball,” Matthew he told reporters on Sunday. Asked if he still had football left in him, Matthew replied: “Definitely so.”
Before the game, Kelly and their four daughters were seen giving Matthew words of encouragement on the field. Matthew got down on one knee and hugged his daughters as Kelly leaned into the huddle. “A group hug before the game for the Stafford family,” NFL official Instagram the account wrote via post on Sunday.
Kelly and their daughters were by Matthew’s side during the NFL season, even as he battles illness. After the Rams’ game against the Minnesota Vikings on January 13 was rescheduled, the Rams organization arranged for a plane for the team and their families to travel together to the game.
“We were sick on that flight,” Kelly admitted on the Jan. 15 episode of her “Morning After” podcast. “She was there and huge guilt factor I say, ‘Should we be on this plane right now because of everyone around us and everyone who has to play this game?'”
In front of Kelly and her daughters he got on the planeshe approached others in the Ram family for advice. “They said, ‘Get on that plane.’ We all need to be together,” Kelly said. “It was so unbelievable for me to hear that because it was like, ‘Should I stay back with my kids?'”
Matthew also insisted that Kelly and the girls travel with him to the game. “Matthew said, ‘No, we’ll do whatever it takes. We’re all getting on this plane. We’re going to be together right now,” Kelly said.
Despite the hesitation, Kelly was ultimately glad to attend the game — which the Rams won. “This win, other than the Super Bowl (in 2022), was probably my favorite win when I was a Ram,” Kelly gushed.
