Billy Crudup had some “romantic” words for Naomi Watts they slept together for the first time – but they had nothing to do with keeping warm and heavy.
“Hey, if it makes you feel better: I’ve got gray hair on my balls,” Crudup, 56, told Watts the first time they slept together, according to her book. Dare I say it: Everything I wish I knew about menopause.
Watts, 56, shared her menopause journey in the book, which was published on Tuesday, January 21. Part memoir, part informative guide, the book details Watts’ experiences with hormone patches—which is where this particular story came from.
“I started wearing the patch a few years ago for hormone therapy. I was afraid that if he saw it, he would realize that it meant I was in menopause: I was no longer a living, fertile being,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, the patch’s adhesive leaves a mark on the skin that is very difficult to get rid of.”
While at Crudup’s house that fateful night, Watts wrote that she “took off (the hormone patch) and scraped the skin off. Crudup asked if she was okay in the bathroom because it was taking so long.
“I came away humbled,” Watts said in the book. “I stumbled and reached for words, but nothing came out.
Finally, Watts admitted she was going through menopause and explained the hormone patches.
A smile spread across his face. He seemed very relieved that lack of desire wasn’t the problem,” Watts recalled. “He told me he thought it was great that I was taking care of myself and asked me how he could help.
Crudup then offered a similar – yet different – confession about the aforementioned gray hair.
“To this day, those words are the most romantic words I’ve ever heard, on and off the screen, and that includes the script of every movie I’ve ever been in,” Watts continued. “And even this man’s very loving marriage proposal that came seven years later.
Watts met Crudup on set Gypsya 2017 Netflix series in which she starred as a “horny sociopathic therapist”. While they filmed sex scenes together, it was just friendly between them at first.
“Then one day, during a sex scene, he spontaneously threw a pillow across the room while he gripped me with such passion that I turned red and broke character,” Watts wrote. “Soon after, during one of those lengthy lighting changes, when we were having a meaningful conversation, we exchanged glances. It took place just a pause too long for it to be anything other than a shared attraction.”
Their flirtatious relationship began to blossom in 2017, p My Weekly confirmation in August that year Watts and Crudup were together. They tied the knot a low-key ceremony in New York in June 2023.
“Loving him is the kindest thing I’ve ever done for myself,” Watts wrote in her book.
I dare say it it’s out now.
