Oakley makes smart glasses for meta athletes: report

Meta’s Reality Labs is expanding its line of AI-powered smart glasses with new Oakley-branded glasses designed for athletes. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Bloomberg reports that the new smart glasses, which Meta is looking to capitalize on the success of the Ray-Ban Meta, will be based on Oakley’s Sphaera glasses and put the camera at the center of the frame.

It looks like Meta wants to tap into Oakley’s cult-like following among different groups of athletes, including cyclists, runners and rowers. This could help make smart glasses more popular among mainstream consumers.

Beyond new glasses, Meta is also exploring a wide range of AI-powered devices, including camera-equipped headphones and a smartwatch. According to the report, the company is also developing $1,000 smart glasses based on the Ray-Ban Meta design with an AR display on the bottom of the right lens.
