Robert F. Kennedy Jr. surprised the crowd – and many fans – after he enlisted Jewel perform at his inaugural Make America Health Again Ball.
Jewel’s appearance was apparently a gift to Kennedy’s wife, Cheryl Hinesand was unexpected – Jewel was not previously listed as a performer for the 2025 inaugural events held on Monday 20 January to celebrate President Donald Trumpthe second term.
“We’re going to go out and make America healthy again,” Kennedy, 71, told the crowd at the inaugural MAHA Ball in Washington, DC, according to a fan video. shared via X.

“I got a call from a woman who did Cheryl’s favorite music artist for her entire life and she said to me, ‘I’m coming to sing to the crowd tonight,'” Kennedy said, before telling the audience, “We’ve got a special treat. Please welcome Jewel.”
Jewel, who has not publicly endorsed either candidate 2024 presidential electionthen he took the stage to a room full of cheers.
“I’m happy to be here,” said the 50-year-old singer. “I want to thank Bobby for sacrificing so much to make America healthy again. So that they start treating us as if we were a whole person. We are a physical, mental and emotional body.”
The musician noted that she chose to sing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” for the occasion because of what the song symbolizes.
“I think it sums up the hope that founded America and I think we all feel again,” Jewel said before singing the iconic song originally released Judy Garland and wrote Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg for 1939 The Wizard of Oz.
Jewel’s a cappella rendition brought tears to Hines’ eyes as he watched from the side of the stage.
